ABOUT
Rakel Björk Björnsdóttir is an Icelandic artist working across acting, music, performance, writing, and vocal coaching. She is the owner of ÞAU Company and a member of the close-harmony trio Raddbandið, the rock band different Turns and the alternative/indie rock band ÞAU.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Rakel is currently performing in the Musical Who Wants to Be a Princess? at Tjarnarbíó Theatre, produced by Raddbandið, where she also contributed as a playwright and composer. In October she will perform in The Host with the Nordic Beasts at Dansehallerne in Copenhagen. In November, Raddbandið will premiere it's new holiday production Christmas at the boiling point in the National Theatre of Iceland.
RECENT WORK
Rakel appeared in Room 4.1, a production by Kristján Ingimarsson Company, performed at the Reykjavík City Theatre and at CPH STAGE in 2023. Rakel is also known for her role as Ms. Honey in Matilda the Musical, her portrayal of Bubbi Morthens in the the Award winning Musical 9 Lives, and performances in Don't dress for dinner, the Rock Musical Hark and the family musical The Fruit Basket. In addition to her stage work, Rakel has experience in film and voice-over acting. Her screen credits include e.g. Ferox, Sparrows, Vitjanir and The New Year's Show. Notably, she is the Icelandic voice of Isabela Madrigal in Disney’s Encanto.
