
RAKEL BJÖRK
INTRODUCTION
Rakel Björk Björnsdóttir is an artist based in Iceland working in the fields of acting, music, performance, writing and vocal training.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Rakel is currently performing in the Musical Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Hver vill vera prinsessa?) at Tjarnarbíó Theatre, produced by Raddbandið. Rakel wrote the play with her fellow members of Raddbandið and the director Sara Martí, and composed the music with Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson.
In June Rakel will take on her next project; performing in the dance performance The Host with the Nordic Beasts at Dansehallerne in Copenhagen. Premiere is in October 2025.
STAGE EXPERIENCE
Rakel worked as an actress at the Reykjavík City Theatre (Borgarleikhúsið) from 2019 to 2024 and is best known for her role as Ms. Honey in Matilda the Musical and her performance in the Award winning Musical 9 Lives - Bubbi Morthens. Rakel is a performer in the show Room 4.1 by Kristján Ingimarsson Company. The piece was both performed at the Reykjavík City Theatre in 2022 and at the Danish theatre festival CPH STAGE in 2023. Other recent projects are playing Fjóla Svif in Hark the Musical at Tjarnarbíó and Mæja the Strawberry in the Fruit Basket (Ávaxtakarfan).
MUSIC
Rakel is the Icelandic voice of Isabela Madrigal in the Disney film Encanto. She is a singer, lyricist and a composer in three bands; the close harmony trio Raddbandið, the rock band different Turns and finally the alternative/indie rock band ÞAU.

EDUCATION
Rakel has an educational background in acting and singing from Iceland University of The Arts and Copenhagen’s Complete Vocal Institute. She led the vocal training at the Acting School of Reykjavík City Theatre (Leiklistarskóli Borgarleikhússins) for children at the age of 10 to 15 years from 2020 to 2023, and has offered solo lessons in singing for a few years.
FILM WORK
Rakel has done some film work, e.g. playing the role of Lára in the feature film Sparrows (Þrestir) by Rúnar Rúnarsson in 2015 and the role of Magga in Ferox (Falskur Fugl) in 2013. She also appeared in the TV series Fractures (Vitjanir) in 2021 and The New Year's TV program (Áramótaskaupið) broadcasted by RÚV in the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
